Flamingo Gardens is a true oasis of greenery and tropical calm in South Florida. Just imagine: you leave the hustle and bustle of Miami, drive only 40 minutes in a rental car, and suddenly you’re surrounded by giant oak trees, vibrant flowers, and flocks of pink flamingos. It’s like stepping into a dream.
The garden is open daily from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with the last admission at 4:00 PM. Tickets are $24 for adults and $17 for kids ages 3 to 11. Children under 2 get in free. Parking is free and right by the entrance — perfect if you're visiting in a rental car: quick, easy, and hassle-free.
Founded back in 1927, Flamingo Gardens continues to amaze visitors with its natural beauty. With over 3,000 species of plants from around the world, some so tall and lush you might think you're in a rainforest. And those massive oak trees? Super rare for Florida.
Of course, the flamingos are the stars. Dozens of them stroll gracefully around a peaceful pond near a cozy cafe. You can sip on a cold lemonade while watching them wade through the water - a totally relaxing scene.
Don’t miss the historic Wray Home right in the center of the garden. It's been preserved just as it was in the 1930s, with its living room, kitchen, bedrooms, and old-school furniture. The house tour is included with admission, and guides share interesting stories. No strollers allowed inside, though.
Every day, there are live animal shows with birds and wildlife at 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 3:30 PM. They explain what the animals eat, how flamingos get their pink feathers (spoiler: shrimp and carrots!), and why we find animals so fascinating. It’s fun, educational, and kids love it.
From 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM, hop on the narrated tram ride that circles the entire park. It’s a great way to see everything without walking too much, and the guide adds fun facts and jokes along the way.
Peacocks roam freely here, strutting their stuff, fanning their tails, and sometimes photobombing your pictures. Honestly, it feels more like you’re visiting their home. They could easily rename this place Peacock Gardens!
Besides flamingos, you’ll also see bears, panthers, otters, turtles, alligators, and more. All housed in open, natural enclosures that make your walk feel like a mini safari.
And don’t forget to feed the ducks, ibis, or fish! Feed is just $1, and it’s always a hit with the little ones.
Flamingo Gardens isn’t a zoo or an amusement park - it’s a peaceful place to slow down. You can walk, relax in the shade, ride a bike, or even bring your dog. If you're renting a car in Miami and looking for a great day trip, this is the perfect spot.
